Sugarcane Juice is quite refreshing

It is absolutely no secret I am not a foodie type of gal.  I eat to survive but I am not one that will google “Best places to eat in Chicago.”  I do not like eating weird meats and animal products in general, so when it comes to food when I travel I just focus on what I am going to do vs where I am going to eat.  That being said, when I go to festivals I really try to venture out of my comfort zone and try something different.

(side note, I annoy everyone I love because I never know where I want to eat, nor do I care)

I do however love eating anything vegetarian or vegan.  I love fruits & veggies.  I love plant based foods because to me they taste best and often after eating them, I feel my best.    So when I went to the DFW Dragonboat festival imagine my surprise when I discovered sugarcane juice.

In short, it wasn’t nearly as sweet as I anticipated, but at the same time, it was quite refreshing.  I also love that it was not a dairy based drink but fresh pressed juice.

It was a ton of fun watching them make it.  They literally pressed the sugar cane & squeeze the juice out.  It was highly entertaining (at least to me but I am easily entertained).  I thought cane was really hard but this machine made it into mush.  I am pretty sure I giggled, but again I am easily entertained.

the end result???  Cold, refreshing, yumminess.

I highly suspect sugar cane juice will taste way better in Asia, and that is a theory I can’t wait to try out.  Have you had sugarcane juice?

I am in love, with Trader Joe’s Vit E Oil…

This is a miracle product ya’ll and for the VERY low price of $3.99. You seriously can’t get better than this product.

When it came time to start switching out all my current products for more natural, cruelty free products, I struggled with finding an oil. I love putting oil on myself after I shower for a natural looking glow, I also have some small acne scars from my teenage days, that have faded over time… but still have a small presence.

Anyway, I was looking for an oil that was cruelty free product that I could use after the shower & especially this summer I tend to get dry skin in the summer, Texas summers are brutal ya’ll. This product was on so many lists I knew it had to be legit and I shop at Trader Joe’s weekly, so I figured it was worth trying.

In fact one girl called it her boyfriend it is simply that amazing.   She isn’t alone, simply google Trader Joe’s Vitamin E oil and there are numerous people that have stated their admiration for this amazing product.

I am finding that I use this product for everything.  I use it as a make up remover when I wear eye makeup, I use it 2-3 times a week on my small scars, I use a few drops after the shower on my legs, I put a few drops on my hair ends for an extra conditioning boost.  I use a few drops into my bath when I want some extra conditioning and lately I have started using it with another product to help condition my cuticles.  This is literally a product I will probably continue to use like… forever.  I am in love with this product.  Plus I don’t think I need to tell you about the amazing affects vitamin E has on aging… it might as well be considered a fountain of youth.

and for $3.99 you can afford to add this puppy to your arsenal too.  I promise you will not be disappointed with the results.

Cruelty Free Product Review Yes to Carrots

So here is the thing I freaking love carrots. I especially love my daily carrot, mango, ginger smoothies. FREAKING AMMMMMMAZING. I seriously drink at least 4-5 of these delightful smoothies a week.  Not even kidding.

I ran out of face soap and I decided it was time to find a new cruelty free face wash and night time moisturizer. So on my quest to switch to natural, cruelty free products I learned about Yes to Carrots. Guys I am in love. I am in love with the way the products make my skin feel & look. I updated my facebook picture recently and I received so many comments about my flawless skin… wait whaa??? I was the acne prone teen and twenty something… I have never been told my skin is flawless, I can say since I have been using these two products for the past 30-45 days I can thank them for my flawless skin (or since I quit dairy, but that is a whole other post) I am debating if I want to start using their day cream because I love this company so much.  I am still finishing off my day cream I bought a while back, that is sadly not cruelty free before I buy a new day cream.

The best part??? the facewash is $7.99 and the night cream is $12.99. Flawless skin on a drug store budget??? Yes please.

The company has more than carrots, they have so many different lines for so many skin types I urge you to try their products, they are incredibly affordable, 95% natural and most importantly cruelty free.

Oh and they won Allure Beauty Awards in 2013… so it is not just me that loves Yes To Carrots.

If you are a girl (or guy) that is on a budget but wants products that are cruelty free and work… trust me try this company.  You can buy them at your neighborhood drug store.

The Road to #Vegan

I decided that this year was going to be about me becoming healthier, a better saver and to get out of debt.  I have been playing with the vegan diet for years, five to be exact.  Five years ago I was a daily Burger King double cheeseburger type of girl, then I would go home and eat BBQ, slathered with all sorts of other things that you really shouldn’t eat.

I also have said “I love animals”  which I do, I love dogs & cats… and every type of animal that you can cuddle with.  Then one day I came across this book, Skinny Bitch.  I was like oh I want to be a skinny bitch let me pick this up and read it.

I didn’t realize that Skinny Bitch was a pro vegan lifestyle book.  I read every page.  I was amazed at what was being said in the book, I started fact checking because you can’t believe everything you read right?  I started reading books, watching documentaries.  Every thing.  I was obsessed.  Then I started to realize if I am going to love animals, I really shouldn’t just love the ones I cuddle with.

That was five years ago.

I am not going to lie, I still eat meat, although it is rarer and rarer.   I can also tell you that when I am actually on my vegan kick, my blood work comes back better, my moods are more stable, my skin glows… the benefits are real.

Which is why I have decided it is time to make that change and stay vegan.  I have always been great at eating vegetarian/vegan for 30 days or a little longer then I need to eat something out of convenience and I eat meat.

Then I start to feel anxious, run down, bloated… horrible.

Which is how I feel today as I have been regularly consuming meat since Thanksgiving.

I was talking to one of my friends and the reason I fail is because I do not plan well, I do not plan my meals.  So I have spent the past week finding recipes that will store well so I can make ahead and not eat out of convenience.

This has been a very long journey for me that I have not been the most successful with but I have decided that I would make food ahead of time.  I even found the most amazing dessert recipe I am making this weekend.  (I CAN’T WAIT)

What do you recommend doing to stay vegan?  Have you fallen off the wagon and gotten back on?  Share recipes with me.  My goal is to be 100% vegan by the end of the year!
