Stillhouse Lake (Stillhouse Lake #1) by Rachel Caine

Gina Royal is the definition of average—a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor—the ultimate warrior mom.

With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace.

But just when she’s starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake—and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed—or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she’s learned how to fight evil. And she’ll never stop.

My Review: To be honest I don’t know if I would have sought this book out if it wasn’t for the Goodreads 2017 Awards, but man I am so glad I decided to read this one before voting closes because it is damn good and action packed from page one.

The premise is fascinating it is so good.  What if you married a sadistic serial killer but didn’t know it?  What if that killer was on death road and blamed you.  What would you do?  This book did not stop with the action and build up.  The characters were so well developed and seriously complex.

I couldn’t imagine going on the run from a deranged lunatic and his followers.  It was so good.   This is a must read if you have not read it. This book also will keep you guessing until the end which doesn’t happen to often anymore.

Justice Redeemed by Scott Pratt

Summary: Two years ago, Darren Street made a name for himself as the man who rooted out corruption in the district attorney’s office. Now the hotheaded young lawyer is in the public eye yet again—this time, accused of murder.

Jalen Jordan retained Street for what seemed to be a minor traffic violation, but when evidence turned up linking Jordan to the death of two boys, Street wanted out of the case. To ensure his lawyer’s cooperation and silence, Jordan threatened to make Street’s son the next victim. Shortly after, Jordan’s own body turned up with a bullet hole in his chest.

Now Street is on trial for his life, and the enemy he made in the DA’s office is clearly out for blood. It’s one lawyer out to frame another. Can a desperate father escape punishment for a crime he didn’t commit?

My Review: I am making a mad dash to finish my “read a book set in every state” bucket list goal, especially since I realized I only needed to read a book set in 4 states. This week I realized that I was going to do a lot of busy work, so the opportunity to listen to books made it easy to really try and finish this goal this week.

I work with attorneys across 17 states so I am always a fan of legal drama books. So when I found this one Kindle Unlimited I was stoked. I love legal drama, even though I am not a lawyer I know more than the average non-lawyer and reading the drama is easy.

This book was good, very good in fact. Within moments of listening, I was immediately drawn into the story. I loved how fast paced the story was, I really could not put this book down. I was drawn into this story. Jalen was creepy as hell & I absolutely loved Street.

This book was interesting because you knew who framed him & you found yourself really pulling for Street putting the clues together. Fantastic read!

Book Description:

Ruby’s Choice is a coming of age story set in the late 1970’s in Middle Tennessee with a splash of paranormal which will blossom in the second and third books of the series.

Ever since Ruby discovered an amber-encased spider web in the Campbell Ridge Cave, she has had dreams of births, deaths and glimpses into the future.

Ruby’s shift is coming to a close at Everglade General Store. As she stacks the last row of bath soap, Ruby recalls the delicious dream she had the night before. In the dream, a gorgeous guy is kissing a tickle spot, just behind her left earlobe, sending shivers up her spine. If only that dream could come true, instead of the one where a state trooper gives her a seventy-five dollar speeding ticket!

Ruby snaps back to reality when she hears the store’s front door bells chime. If she didn’t know any better, she’d say the frickin’ Adonis from her sexy dream just walked through the door.

Reed Jackson and Brent Brown introduce themselves to Ruby as members of the local baseball team her brother, George, manages. Brent mentions they specifically came out to the store to meet George’s hot, little sister. Ruby is slightly confused when she hears Reed murmur Tap It under his breath, but then she remembers the rumor going around campus about Reed and Brent’s dating game, where the two best friends compete to have a girl profess undying love to one of them. And Tap It is a winner takes all—all of what, though, Ruby has no clue. Ruby decides that she’ll play along, but according to her rules. She’ll suss out if either of these players is worthy of her love and respect.

One thing is for sure, Ruby is no pawn.

My Review:  First let me say that I am thrilled to be part of this tour this book was a great fast paced and short read.   When I was away at school a few of the frat boys played this game & I remember thinking wow what would it be like to fall for that.    Throw in the element of paranormal and well you have one fun little ride.

I feel that what Ruby went through in this book is pretty true as to what would happen in this case.   I found the characters believable and I found the time period interesting, I mean don’t get me wrong I have heard about the 70s, but not like this!

I found the character development well paced for a short book it is only roughly 170 pages and often I think it is a struggled to develop the characters in this short of a book.

The story line was  intriguing well paced and overall a fun read.   I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a fast paced read that has a paranormal element to it.

Thank you for allowing me to read this amazing book!
