Something Strange and Deadly (Something Strange and Deadly #1) by Susan Dennard

Summary: There is an alternate cover edition for this ASIN here.

There’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia. . . .

Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about.

Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper:

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.

And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor . . . from her brother.

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including the maddeningly stubborn yet handsome Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.

My Review:   Yes I know ANOTHER zombie book, I am addicted.  I know.   That being said this one was a lot of fun.   It is during the time period where women couldn’t vote they married for status and to keep fortune and it is always fun to see how an author takes on those topics.

I was not disappointed.   Eleanor did whatever it took to find out what happened to her brother even if it ruined her reputation and I freaking loved that about her.   In a time, when most women would only do what is socially acceptable I was glad to see an author take chances.

I really loved this book.  In fact, it has been on my to be read shelf since 2013, this year I told myself I would focus on some older books that I have been wanting to read as well as find some new favorites.  This book made my blog because it is set in Pennsylvania which believe it or not I get asked for books set in all the time.

If you haven’t read this book already you should, it is a big hunk of zombie candy that feels so good reading.

Jill Behe

Genre: romantic mystery, cozy mystery, women sleuth mystery
Publisher: DevilDog Press
Date of Publication: 12/15/15
Cover Artist: Dane@ebooklaunch

Book Description:

Welcome to Mossy Creek. We’re small and easy-going with a lot of community pride and camaraderie. What we don’t have a lot of is crime.

A close-knit laid-back little borough, so close to the southern border of Pennsylvania we’re almost in West Virginia. Townsfolk like to say: “We’re south enough to lend credence to our slight drawl, but sufficiently north of the Mason-Dixon to be ‘damn Yankees’.”

None of us were prepared for murder … especially involving a teenager.

My Review:  This was a really fun murder mystery that takes place in a small town, that you can’t help but love.  I loved the main character even though her grammar was over the top fantastic.  (Grammar is something I really should work on)  This book has a really cute plot and a cute chief of police and let me just say I can’t wait to see where that leads.

Simply put this is a fantastic, cute fun read.  It is pretty short so you can finish it quickly.  As far as the mystery goes it is well developed and will keep you guessing until the big reveal.  Such a fun book.

Coming in the Summer of 2016 Book Three

About the Author:

Jill is the eldest of four children born to Christian parents in East Central Pennsylvania. It took a while, but the rebel within finally broke free. After shocking family and friends by enlisting in the US Army, then marrying–not much of a shock–birthing three sons, and getting divorced–again not much of a shock–she’s now settling in, back in the great State of PA … until the next adventure.

Jill began writing nonsense stories for her siblings and friends while in grade school, probably from the time she learned cursive. Her writing has improved. (A good thing.) With time, maturity and persistence, she continues to hone her craft in a variety of genres … and at the urgent butt-kicking of her friends.

During the thirty-odd years she was ‘away from home,’ she never lost her love of creating prose. It was only a few years ago, she met another writer, and accepted an invitation to join a writing group. Not only did she make many new friends, she also learned more about the craft, and how to market her work.

Christmas in Cupid Falls by Holly Jacobs

Summary: Kennedy Anderson loves Cupid Falls, Pennsylvania. Ever since moving there as an orphaned teenager, she’s worked hard to carve out a place for herself in the tight-knit community. Now she’s mayor and owner of the town’s flower shop. But she also has a big secret…and nine months to figure out how to break the news to the father.

Lawyer Malcolm Carter has always been the golden boy of Cupid Falls—until he discovers the one night he spent with the girl-next-door turned out to have a lifetime of consequences. Now, the mother of his child wants nothing to do with him, and he’s gone from someone who is admired to persona non grata as the town rallies behind its mayor.

Malcom has always known what he wants. But now as Christmas approaches, he’ll have to discover a way to show Kennedy that she could find the only thing she’s ever really wanted—a true home—with him. Convincing her will take the help of Cupid Falls’ quirky residents…and a bit of holiday magic.

This was a very very cute Christmas story, I am not saying I am getting into the Christmas spirit or anything (I can be scroogy) but this book did give me the warm fuzzies.

I loved Malcolm and Kennedy, I felt their dynamic was very sweet and I am so glad with the way the story ended.

This is a cute book for anyone who is hoping for a little Christmas cheer that will give you the warm fuzzies.
