They rip, they tear, they FEED, and you never come back again.

Here’s how last year’s Gypsy Cob Music Festival should have gone. Lenora “Lenny” Ragno was supposed to rock her duet with her long-time crush, Jeb, during the open-mic competition. Then, swept up in the glow of success, he’d finally kiss her. Instead, Lenny choked on stage and spent the whole year dodging him online. And avoiding playing her fiddle in public. She thought her worst nightmare was behind her, but she was way wrong.

Now, she’s back at Gypsy Cob where avoiding a public performance is about as impossible as hiding from Jeb. She thinks facing him will be the scariest part of the festival, but when one of their friends talks everyone into trying astral projection, Lenny catches the eye of a demonic entity that marks her as its own.

Now, whenever it wants, the demon can pluck Lenny from her reality and transport her to a hellish between-world, haunted by its countless, gruesome victims. If she doesn’t want to become one of them, she must discover the nature of the demon’s hold on her and remove it. But how can she defeat a literal demon when she can’t even get over her personal ones?

About the Author

Jessica Bayliss is a fiction author who loves all things reading and writing. Her genre-bending fiction holds a little something for everyone. A lover of ghost tales and horror since her days scanning VHS rental shelves–admittedly with eyes half-averted from the gory covers–a touch of the mysterious always finds a home in Jessica’s work. Romance with a dash of supernatural. Horror with a bit of humor. You get the gist. Jessica also writes across age groups and is a firm believer in the motto, there is a new reader born every day, whether young or not-so-young. Because one cannot live on writing alone, Jessica also spends a great deal of time with friends and family. She is a lover of all animals especially one very special Havanese and one extremely ornery cockatiel. She also loves to eat, cook, and exercise–in that order–and is a firm believer that coffee makes the world a better place.

Jessica also has stories in several of Leap Books anthologies: Beware the Little White Rabbit and Fright Before Christmas.

My laughter caught in my throat, and I had trouble breathing through it. I
looked up at her, watching the way the streetlights played across her features.
With her head thrown back, her throat was long and white, and I was overcome
with a sudden desire to touch it.

and she turned to look at me, her eyes glittering in the sodium glow. For a
long time we stood there, eyes locked, the warm breeze wafting across our skin.
bent her head, and her lips settled upon mine. They were warm and soft,
slippery with lipstick. I shivered and pressed my own lips hungrily against
hers. Her mouth opened a little, and I followed, admitting her inquisitive
tongue. It tickled mine, darting in and out, waltzing across my taste buds. The
flavor of wine, exotic and sour at the same time, flooded my mouth.
heart beat a rapid tattoo through my chest. This was wrong. I should not be
doing this. But I remained mesmerized, nerves I’d never noticed before singing
songs of ecstasy along my spine. Kissing Jesse had been nothing like this.

in satisfaction. Her lipstick, smeared now, blurred her mouth into something
unrecognizable. I ran my tongue across my lips and tasted her there, spikes of
electricity igniting in my belly. This was better than I could have imagined.

I?” I reached for her again, wanting nothing but her mouth on mine once more.

Nothing so good could be wrong, yet my stomach writhed with guilt. “I…I should

Tompkin’s School: For the Dearly Departed
by Tabi Slick
Genre: YA Paranormal/Dark Fantasy
Release Date: August 2nd 2017

Visions of the past, powers beyond belief, and a school that has been waiting for them for over a hundred years. Kain and Izara’s abilities have advanced far greater than they ever imagined possible and it’s all due to their new friend that has joined them. This year will bring the Torvik twins closer to solving the mystery of who they are, why they have these powers, and even closer to unveiling the school’s most haunting secret.

The lights of the Artesian Hotel flickered as the party drew on into the night. I saw Bart Bessler dancing with Mary, and the bright, dazzling yellow eyes of the French, red-headed woman as she drew in the light around her. I shivered at the sight of the wolf-man killing one of the intruders that night they had chained Bart to the ground.“Destiny of beings is about to come to fruition,” the voice of the being’s human companion rang in my ear.The scene turned to liquid and then I saw Izzy standing in front of me.“You know his face,” a voice that didn’t belong to my sister bellowed from within her.I will return….I will return to my children.

My whole body writhed in pain as the voice filled my head.

Book Review Sunday + Giveaway!

I read three books this week.  All three of the books were fantastic.

Book 1 of the week

Blurb:  Stephanie Plum is back in an all-new adventure from #1 bestselling author Janet Evanovich. This time Stephanie’s in deep. To get to the bottom of the mess, she’s going to have to keep things Top Secret.

My rating: 4 stars

I love the Stephanie Plum series and like a lot of people I have been very invested in the series for quite some time. However lately the books have been recycled plots and well boring.

So while I am emotionally invested in this series I was not looking forward to this book. I was expecting the same thing with different characters.

I am so glad I jumped right into this book. I could NOT stop laughing. This book was hilarious.

Sure there is still the whole should she stay with Joe (UMMM YES) or have a wild night with Ranger (uhh maybe?) don’t get me wrong I get her dilemma, but seriously stay with Joe. He is perfect (and until the Rock Chick Series my number one fictional boyfriend!)

Yes there are car bombings and yes there is a “little person” but this time the Stephanie Plum ride was a fun one. A very fun ride.

Grandma has a bucket list which includes getting even with Joe’s evil grandmother Bella & seeing Ranger naked… and oh my god I could not stop laughing at her antics, and does she see Ranger naked? well read to find out 😉

I gave this book 4 stars because I felt there was some of the original Stephanie Plum charm that has  been missing in the previous books. I still feel it is time to start wrapping the series up but at the same time I am going to miss the crazy situations Stephanie, Lula & Grandma get into.

Book 2 of the week

Blurb: Nina Sheridan desperately needs a timeout vacation. With a fiancé who can’t even remember how she takes her coffee, Nina wants some distance to rethink her engagement. Flying halfway around the world from England to a mountain town in Colorado should do the trick. But when she finds a gorgeous man at her rental cabin, Nina’s cold, lonely adventure suddenly heats up.

My rating: 5 stars

God if I ever meet Kristen Ashley I don’t know if I should hug her or slap her.

Seriously. Her books have taken over my life. They are that good. Ever since I discovered the Rock Chick series I can’t stop day dreaming about the hot bunch and what they look like. Also if these very hot dudes are based on anyone real? Cause I want to be THEIR friend.

In fact, and I am pretty sure I don’t want to admit this, I even convinced one of my dear friends that she needs to go The Romance Author book convention so I can check out the book models and find the models that were used in the series.

I swear I need to see a therapist.

Anyway, when I finished the Rock Chick series I felt it was time to dive into something new, and maybe sad and depressing like the newest Dystopian novel, but I just couldn’t. So what did I do?

Started reading The Gamble.

Oh. My. God.

I am not sure if this is better that the Rock Chick or what but I am in love with Max. Seriously could I be a bigger fictional boyfriend whore? Seriously this fictional boyfriend crush is  like dude number 10 in a matter of 2 weeks.

It reminds me of a quote from Austenland (the movie) when Jane quotes & Colonel Andrews (who is gay!) agrees

Jane: I’m single because apparently the only good men are fictional.
Colonel Andrews: Touché!

Seriously that is how it feels, except I am not single and I have a fantastic man, but either way the point is these men are well yummy.

I might be slightly twisted though, cause every time Max was mentioned I pictured Joe Manganiello (who by the way is Hollywood’s Hottest Bach according to People)

Anyway in typical Jen fashion I digress.

I am not sure why I love Kristen Ashley’s books so much maybe it is because I am able to escape in her world for a few hours or maybe it’s because I relate to her characters so I can’t help but devour the books. There is not a question I do love the books.

Either way the books do tend to have the same sort of plot girl gets in trouble hot sexy fictional boyfriend saves her. Then they ride into the sunset happily every after.

But you know what I love every moment of it and I apologize for nothing.

Book 3 this week

Blurb: Gwendolyn Kidd has met the man of her dreams. He’s hot, he’s sexy, and what started as a no-names-exchanged night of passion has blossomed into a year and a half-long pleasure fest. Sure, it’s a little strange that he only appears in her bed at night, but Gwen is so sure he’s the one, she just can’t turn him away…

Hawk Delgado knows more about Gwen than she could ever imagine. She’s gorgeous, headstrong, and skittish about relationships. But Hawk is facing his own demons, demons that keep him from connecting with anyone. Yet when Gwen is drawn into Denver’s lethal underground scene, Hawk’s protective nature comes out full force. The problem is, when Gwen gets a dose of Hawk’s Alpha attitude in the daylight, she’s not so sure he’s the one anymore.

My rating: 4 stars

Again, I can’t decide if I want to hug or slap Kristen Ashley the woman can write some steamy stuff. Stuff that takes my life over.

My co-worker even asked if I was ok, cause I was so quiet. (I bought the whispersync so I could listen at work, and read when I got home! Yes I have serious issues.)

This is a spin off of the Rock Chick series so the premise is the same as the Rock Chick series, but this book was a whole lot naughtier in a very steamy way.

I had a slight small issue with the book which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5.  This circumstance REALLY wasn’t realistic to me, and it irked me but not in a way that ruined the book.

The main character Gwen has a “one night stand” with Mr. Mystery Man, and pretty much he keeps coming back for seconds, thirds… well you get it over the course of the year… AND SHE DOESN’T EVEN LEARN HIS NAME and he gets into HER HOUSE WITHOUT A KEY

Don’t know about you, but that screams girl you need a restraining order.

If this situation isn’t naughty I don’t know what is.

Still this book had me googling flights to Denver for the weekend (too bad I am broke!) cause I am really and I mean really starting to wonder about the men of Denver.

This book was a hot ride and even has an appearance or two of the hot bunch from the Rock Chick Series.

I love Kristen Ashley. I know I make jokes about her destroying my life, but she entertains the hell out of me!
