The other day I was on one of my favorite blogs when I noticed she stated that she had been to a fair amount of World Heritage Sites. This got me to thinking, how many World Heritage Sites are there in the states and how many have I in fact been to.
Well friends there are 981 World Heritage Sites and I have visited 6. Isn’t that discouraging.
I have been to 3 in the United States, my home country, I have seen 4 technically, but I was unable to visit the Statute of Liberty due to the London bombings of 2005 which coincided with my time in NYC. In fact, most sites were shut down due to the heightened threat. Still there are 23 sites in this country and I have seen 4.
I have been to the Grand Canyon, Smoky Mountains, Statute of Liberty & The San Antonio Missions .
So it is safe to say, I have a long way to go.
There are a couple that are within driving distance and maybe one day when I am bored I will consider going.
AS far as international destinations go?
I have been to Antigua Guatemala
The Belize Barrier Reef
So it is safe to say I completely plan on making sure I knock out any UNESCO World Heritage Sites I can when I travel here on out. I have missed a ton in Mexico, seriously. I am pretty sure I went to ruins in Mexico that are on the list, however I was so intoxicated I can’t even remember how I got there, let alone where I went… I was stranded on a cruise ship in the middle of a hurricane… Of course I drank excessively. 🙂
Guess I need to get back to Mexico 😉
