My love of the Oscars

The original post is on Texas Travel Girl

So tonight I decided, that I did not want to post a Disney post instead, in honor of the 84th Academy Awards, I figured I would post about the time I went to LA for work. In 2008, I was fortunate enough to experience LA for the first time. One weekend a few of my coworkers and I decided that we had to go downtown to Hollywood Blvd. To see what all the fuss was about!

I was overwhelmed, I saw the Roosevelt Hotel, which the original and early Academy Awards was handed out.

I am pretty sure the classic greats received their Academny Awards here.

Then we walked over to the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and I instantly became overwhelmed, with the star hand prints. I could have taken pictures all day. Not to mention this was once a place where the Oscars were held for a few years in the 40s.

and oh my the hands, the feet, I don’t need to see them in person, heck I was already STAR STRUCK!

Can you tell who I am pulling for tonight?

I won’t bore you with the tons of photos I took of celebrities, hands & feet or their stars, but I will included them in my album.

Well everyone, I must get back to the Oscars. Hope you enjoy the Oscars as much as I do. I would love to get back to Hollywood!

Thanks for reading!

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

Note:  This post was taken from my Texas Travel Girl page, you can view the original post HERE

As the past few weekends, have been kinda boring and uneventful. I decided to go through my old albums and see what I can post about. In honor of the One More Disney Day Celebration and the fact that I love all things Disney to the point of obsession. I figure I would talk about last year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.

I want to be very clear… I DO NOT HAVE A GREEN THUMB. Not even close. I love plants & flowers, but they do not last very long around me. My mother can grow ferns from a seedling, I however can kill a cactus.

The festival is very pretty, and I was lucky enough to experience it late April to early May, which I think is prime Florida season. The skies were a beautiful shade of blue.

See the pretty blue skies!

For all of you lucky people that have a true Green Thumb HGTV & DIY designers offer of presentations on multiple gardening topics. I did not partake in these events. I don’t think HGTV could save my plants.

On the weekends they have Flower Power Concert series, we were able to witness Paul Revere & The Raiders. If you know who that is good for you. I didn’t, apparently I showed my age according to the 60s something couple we met.

Anyway, my absolute favorite part of this festival? The amazing Disney Character Topiaries. Which the majorty of the photo’s from today’s blog will come from. I can’t choose a favorite. The best part, when I went back in October, it was amazing to see the topiaries spread out throughout the parks.

Anyway, enjoy the photos, and if you ever find yourself in Orlando during the festival, it is worth a visit. Especially if gardening is your thing! The photos may take awhile to load, I have a lot of them, so be patient.

Enjoy!

Which is your favorite? The Lady and the Tramp makes me smile the most!

Summer Reading

images
I have a lot of plans coming this summer, so needless to say a lot of my free time is going to be getting caught up on all the nerdy shows (that is tomorrow’s post) and reading… a lot! With San Diego Comic Con, a trip through the Midwest, Florida then a cruise in November, I am pretty much grounded on spending. I may take a road trip here and there, but that is a big maybe.  I will be pinching pennies pretty much until Christmas.

So I decided to make my summer book & Movie/TV watch lists. It is time to read those books I thought about reading & those must see nerdy TV shows or movies. Especially since I am most likely going to be laying out by the pool enjoying the sunshine the majority of my summer 🙂

Those who know me know I read a lot, and I try to read as often as possible. It is a nice mental escape for when I can’t “really” escape.

I have an Ipad mini, and it is perfect for grabbing those Kindle books and reading when I have down time. (which is often right now  (sadface) ) Links are included to check out, if you are interested, I know I am!!

anyway I have been asking around and looking at new books to come out, and I have my summer reading list. I can typically read 2 books a week as I read often before bed, or out of boredom and I really do get a joy out of reading. So these are the 20 books I hope to read before Labor Day!

So without further ado My Summer book list:

What is on your Summer reading list?

Jen vs The Cubicle

I am pretty good with change, but when I was trying to decide on a new name for my Texas Travel Girl website I just couldn’t let it go.  I love the name too much, but at the same time I felt it was not “right” for what I wanted to do.

At the Delicate Arch
At the Delicate Arch

So I thought long and hard about it and I decided two sites would work better for me, and I always joke that my main goal in life is to escape my cubicle as often as possible, and the name Cubicle Escapee was  born.

Truth is, I often feel as if I am battling my cubicle.

I hate working in a cubicle, zero sunlight, I stare at a computer all day, so much time is spent on the phone, and GOD help me when I am sitting next to someone that is sick and hacking up a lung (eww!) .. it is truly dreadful.  Yes, I have looked for something a little more exciting and I have found those jobs tend to offer 10 WHOLE DAYS in PTO.  I currently have 25.

No thanks,  I will take this cubicle over some other dreadful job that gives only 10 measly days.

for now anyway

Even as a child I loved traveling, especially trips to the beach :)
Even as a child I loved traveling, especially trips to the beach 🙂

I don’t really just escape my cubicle for International travel, although believe me I do try to plan that as often as possible, but I find that weekends are a great way to escape too. There are a lot of wonderful escapes out there.

"running" a local race, I struggled, but then again I could have been at work...
“running” a local race, I struggled, but then again I could have been at work…

I am dedicating this site to the every day person, who works and has to use their days off & PTO to travel.   People like me.

I will write about saving money for that RTW trip I am dreaming of taking.  I however will not be doing this trip for a VERY long time, so these posts won’t be too overwhelming, until I decide to get serious about it.  I only have $18 in my savings for that trip, I know I want to do it, but I need a few things to line up first.  So while I save casually I need a few debts to end before I can get really serious about it. All my Rio 2016 posts will be here from now on too.  I am very serious about getting to Rio for the Olympics. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.  The first Olympics in South America?  Count me in.  Even if I am eating rice & ramen for every meal in 2016. 🙂

I will write about food, road trips, budgets, flights & international trips, when I finally take one.  There will be a lot of Disney, Nerdy trips & possibly  a book review or two (especially when I am broke and all I can afford to do is get to and from work!) If it involves being away from work, it will be here 🙂

I will defeat this blasted cubicle

Sometimes Pixie Dust maybe needed to escape
Sometimes Pixie Dust maybe needed to escape

When I take a cheap trip, which I do often, I will let you know how I did.

Us Cubicle Junkies have to stick together after all!  Because, any cubicle junkie knows, you really must escape as often as possible or you will go INSANE!

Thanks for coming around. 🙂
